Here, you'll have the chance to savor a local breakfast and stretch your legs. After breakfast, it's a short 40-minute drive to Pinnawala Elephant Village. You have the option to visit the Elephant Orphanage or the Millennium Elephant Foundation, where you can engage in a hands-on experience by washing, feeding, and walking with an elephant. This visit will last around one to one and a half hours. From Pinnawala, you will embark on a short 30-minute drive to the village of Mawanella, known for its spices. In Mawanella, you will be given a free lesson about the various spices grown in the village, enriching your knowledge of local agriculture and its significance.
- Next, the journey continues to the Tooth Relic Temple in Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you can witness Buddhaβs left canine tooth. Following your visit to the temple, take a leisurely stroll through the last kingdom of Sri Lanka, immersing yourself in its historical ambiance. Lunch will be at a viewpoint overlooking Kandy Lake and the city, allowing you to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty (lunch expenses are not included). After lunch, you will visit Bahiravakanda village, home to the magnificent 88-foot tall Buddha statue, one of the tallest on the island. This awe-inspiring statue offers a profound sense of peace and spirituality. Your tour then includes a visit to a gem factory in Kandy, where you can learn about Sri Lankan gem culture and the intricate processes involved in gem production. This fascinating exploration of local craftsmanship is both educational and engaging. On your way back to Colombo, a stop at Pilimathalawa will allow you to visit a tea factory.
